Hyundai Motor India Ltd (HMIL) on Monday said prices of its vehicles across models will go up by up to Rs 5,000 from November 1.
This will help the company cater to markets in the European Union, while availing of the tax incentives there.
Indian passenger vehicles market registered record wholesales of 43 lakh units in 2024, with companies like market leader Maruti Suzuki, Hyundai, Tata Motors, Toyota Kirloskar Motor, and Kia posting their best-ever annual domestic sales. The continued growth of SUVs, along with rural markets playing a key role in driving up car sales, helped the industry better the previous best of nearly 41.1 lakh units posted in 2023.
India's second-biggest carmaker Hyundai Motor India on Friday said its sales surged 13.4 per cent in May 2004.
Similar to its predecessor i-10, the i-20 will be manufactured exclusively in India and exported to other countries. The i-20 model, which will come in many variants, is expected to be priced anywhere between Rs 5-6 lakh. The i-20 is likely to be equipped with an automatic gear box to facilitate convenient driving.

The import of car tyres surged in April-June as compared to the same period last year, but those of truck and bus tyres fell.
This can spark off a price war.
Domestic passenger vehicle wholesales were down 0.8 per cent at 3,44,656 units in May this year as compared to 3,47,492 units in the same month last year, Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers said on Monday.

The country's largest carmaker Maruti Suzuki India on Thursday reported 14 per cent increase in total wholesales at 159,044 units in November. The company had dispatched 139,184 units to dealers in November 2021, MSI said in a statement. Last month, the company's domestic sales rose 18 per cent to 139,306 units as against 117,791 units in November 2021, it added.

The company said its domestic sales increased by 1.8 per cent during the month to 90,399 units as against 88,801 units in September last year.

In what signals an emerging battle among small car manufacturers, Hyundai Motors India Ltd has asked the country's apex auto association to act against moves by "some pressure groups" to change the definition of a small car.
Among Sensex firms, Maruti zoomed the most by 8.94 per cent. Bajaj Finance rallied over 5 per cent, UltraTech Cement by 3.71 per cent, and Bajaj Finserv by 3.7 per cent. Mahindra & Mahindra, Hindustan Unilever and Trent were also among the gainers. However, ITC was the biggest loser, dropping by 1.26 per cent. Eternal, Tech Mahindra and Larsen & Toubro also declined.
Hyundai's entry-level Santro still packs a punch but, flanked by spunkier siblings, seems worn out.
"They (Mahindra Renault) are planning to launch Sandero, which is very similar sounding to our Santro. Both are hatchbacks and Santro is an established trademark and they are trying to get mileage out of it," a senior HMIL official said.

Ola Electric has denied media reports suggesting its involvement in a leak of proprietary pouch cell technology (tech) from South Korea's LG Energy Solution, calling the allegations "baseless". The company said it has no commercial or research interest in the older pouch cell format cited in the reports, emphasising that its new 4680 Bharat Cell - based on advanced dry-electrode cylindrical tech - is already in commercial production.

Hyundai Motor India Ltd on Wednesday launched a new version of its premium compact car i20 priced between Rs 4,52,000 and Rs 7,48,000, while adding two more variants to its existing range.
Hyundai has also decided to phase out Getz looking at the growing demand for i20.
Apart from this, the company will roll out its SUV Santa Fe in October this year which will carry a price tag between Rs 20 lakh (Rs 2 million) and Rs 22 lakh (Rs 2.2 million) a unit.
The LPG variant will be priced Rs 21,500 more than the existing petrol model. The ex-showroom Delhi price for Santro eco (GL) is Rs 354,294 and Santro eco (GLS) is Rs 373,357.
Hyundai Motor India, India's second-biggest carmaker, on Monday said its car sales surged by 46.8 per cent in August to 14,436 units on higher domestic demand and exports.
Elon Musk-led Tesla Inc is yet to express interest in India's flagship scheme to attract global investment in electric vehicle (EV) manufacturing, said Union Minister for Heavy Industries H D Kumaraswamy on Monday. In contrast, multiple global automobile giants -- such as Mercedes-Benz, koda Auto Volkswagen, Hyundai Motor, and Kia Motors -- are keen to participate, the minister noted.
The car will be available with a 1.2 litre Kappa engine in three variants. The company has also decided not to absorb 1,200 trainees as it reduces working shifts in its Chennai plant.
Besides making India its global small car hub and increasing the R&D headcount by four fold, the company would start exporting its engines from the Chennai plant from next year.
Maruti Suzuki India (MSI) and Hyundai posted single-digit growth in domestic sales in June, even as the overall passenger vehicle segment crossed the 20 lakh units sales mark for the first time-ever in the first half this year. Toyota Kirloskar Motor reported a double-digit growth in dispatches to dealers, while Kia saw a dip in wholesales last month. MG Motor India also reported a double-digit increase in retail sales in June 2023 compared to the same month last year.
However, the company's cumulative sales (including exports) in November were up by 48.89 per cent to 43,105 units compared with 28,950 units in the year-ago period, HMIL said. Its exports for the month rose by nearly three-fold to 28,500 units, the same stood at 9,898 units during the same month in 2007.
Korean car maker Hyundai Motors India Ltd said it will have to lay off 2,000 temporary workers, about one-fourth of its labour force, to tide over a decline in car sales. The company employs over 8,400 workers, of which around 3,300 are temporary.
